Can a male chinchilla spray in self defense?

Store said it was a male but have read that only females spray urine in self defense|||Female are more likely to spray %26amp; have the better aim, but males will also spray...|||It%26#039;s true that it is the females that spray.|||I have males (and they ARE males) and they%26#039;ve sprayed before. They%26#039;ll usually stand on their hind legs first and then spray, but mine have been running around after each other and all of a sudden I%26#039;ll smell urine, like one of them sprayed while running.

How old is your chinchilla? If it%26#039;s 4 months or older, check for testicles. If it%26#039;s younger than 4 months, you%26#039;ll have to wait, but males start to develop testicles around 3 or 4 months. If you notice that, then you know you definitely got a male! =)|||Trust me, the females are the ones that spray. I%26#039;ve gotten sprayed by one before. With the males the only thing you need to be worried about are fur rings.
